Our Vision for Art & Design

Across the Fairchildes Academy Community Trust (FACT), we firmly believe that art is for everyone. Our shared intention is to provide a vibrant, nurturing environment where every child takes part in creative experiences that enrich their lives, build their confidence, and cultivate a lifelong love for the arts. Through regular weekly lessons, pupils develop a deep understanding of the core elements of art, such as colour, line, and tone. Because we meet children exactly where they are, we adapt our curriculum to each class’s unique starting point. This ensures that every individual can access, enjoy, and thrive in their creative learning.

Our children explore a rich world of diversity by studying artistic eras from antiquity to the 21st century. By learning about a wide range of global cultures and inspiring creators—including celebrated mouth artists—our pupils see firsthand that creativity knows no physical boundaries. Ultimately, we encourage our children to think like artists. We guide them to look deeper at the world around them, to question what art means, to value its worth, and to discover the bright possibilities for their own personal and creative growth.

Music

Our Vision for Music

At the Fairchildes Academy Community Trust (FACT), we embrace music as a universal language that can soothe, teach, excite, unify, and motivate our children. Our shared intention is to provide a supportive environment where music is valued as a meaningful way to help children step out of their comfort zones, explore creatively, and build self-confidence. We value highly the art of singing collectively and are aware of the stress-busting effect of singing together. It is a vital part of growing and learning that helps children build resilience, collaborative focus, and ensures every young person has the right to experience music as part of their development.

Music serves as a fantastic tool to connect our schools with the wider community. Through regular class assemblies, local festive performances like Christmas singing, and vibrant community carnivals, we bring together families and the whole school to celebrate our children's collective efforts and musical achievements. Huge value is placed on singing for pleasure, supported by many diverse school choirs over the academic year. A superb, memorable experience within this vocal journey is our trust-wide participation in the prestigious Croydon Schools' Music Association (CSMA) Festival at Fairfield Halls. Uniting in a spectacular massed choir, this event serves as a true celebration of singing and community connection.

Ultimately, we want music to serve as a supportive space where we can find musical individuals and polish them until they shine brightly. It provides an accessible avenue for personal success and alternative expression. As part of our commitment to building and enhancing our music development, we actively engage with Croydon Music and Arts (CMA) to enrich our offer of musical opportunities across the trust. By offering these distinct pathways, we hope to spark a lifelong love of music and help all FACT pupils to flourish.

Drama

Our Vision for Drama

Across the Fairchildes Academy Community Trust (FACT), we firmly believe that the performing arts offer a huge opportunity for natural inclusion to enrich the lives of our pupils. Our shared intention is to provide a supportive environment where drama is valued as a meaningful way to help children step out of their comfort zones, express themselves creatively, and build self-confidence. We value performance and genuine human interaction as something that remains incredibly relevant—it is a unique part of growing and learning that helps children build resilience and discover their potential.

Drama serves as a fantastic tool to connect our schools with the wider community. Through regular class assemblies and end-of-year productions, we bring together families and the whole school to celebrate our children's efforts and shared expression. As part of our commitment to building and enhancing our drama development, we are introducing targeted drama activities and are developing practical resources to support our staff. Our aim is to build teacher confidence so they can gradually use drama to enhance the daily curriculum and offer an extra tool to support our children’s well-being.

Ultimately, we want drama to serve as a supportive space where every child can find their voice and shine. It provides a unique avenue for success, particularly for those who might find other areas of learning a challenge. Through our strong links with the Polka Theatre and a commitment to hosting visiting performers, we aim to bring the magic of theatre directly to our pupils. By offering these rich cultural experiences—which some children might otherwise not encounter—we hope to spark a genuine appreciation for the arts, allowing all FACT pupils to thrive.
